How to Reach Kashmir from Chennai
Getting from Chennai to Kashmir is straightforward, but you have two realistic options. Flights are not included in the package — you book those separately and we handle everything from the moment you land in Srinagar.
By Flight — The Most Popular Choice
Departure ~ Chennai International (MAA)
Arrival ~ Sheikh ul-Alam International, Srinagar (SXR)
Flight Duration~3 hours 30 min (direct) / 5–7 hours (1 stop)
Approx. Airfare ~ ₹5,000–₹12,000 per person (book early)
IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet typically operate flights from Chennai to Srinagar — most with a single stop at Delhi or Mumbai. Direct flights are available but less frequent; keep an eye on fare calendars 60–90 days in advance for the best rates.
💡 Pro tip for Chennai travellers: Book your Srinagar flight and tell us your arrival time. Our driver will be waiting at Srinagar Airport with a welcome garland — no waiting, no confusion.
Kashmir Tour Package from Chennai by Train
There is no direct train from Chennai to Srinagar. The closest practical route is:
- Train from Chennai to Jammu Tawi (approx. 40–46 hours) — trains like the Himsagar Express run this route.
- From Jammu, take a road transfer to Srinagar (approx. 4–5 hours by taxi/bus through the NH44 highway).
Train travel works well if you enjoy the scenic journey and want to save on airfare, but add 2–3 extra days to your overall trip. If you choose this route, our Srinagar pickup is available from the city instead of the airport — just inform us at the time of booking.
Note on Srinagar Railway Station: Srinagar now has a railway station (part of the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link project), but as of 2026 full passenger services from the rest of India are not yet fully operational. Jammu Tawi remains the practical railhead. Always confirm current train availability before booking.
Kashmir Tour Package from Chennai Price
Here’s the straightforward pricing breakdown. All prices are per person, based on 2 persons sharing. Flights from Chennai are not included — you book those separately.
💡 Important: The more people you add to your group, the lower the per-person price. A family of 4 or a group of 6 will pay significantly less per head than a couple. Ask us for a group quote.
| Hotel Category | 5N 6D — Per Person | 6N 7D — Per Person | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3-Star Normal | ₹13,500 | ₹16,000 | Budget travellers, solo, student groups |
| 3-Star Premium | ₹16,500 | ₹20,000 | Budget-conscious families, small groups |
| 4-Star Normal | ₹40,500 | ₹49,000 | Families, senior citizens, comfort seekers |
| 4-Star Premium | ₹63,000 | ₹74,500 | Honeymoon couples, premium family trips |
| 5-Star Premium | ₹87,500 | ₹1,03,500 | Luxury travellers, special occasions |
| 5-Star Premium Plus | ₹1,00,000 | ₹1,18,000 | Ultra-premium honeymoon, corporate retreats |
| 5-Star Luxury | ₹1,35,500 | ₹1,60,500 | Absolute luxury, top-tier resorts |
* Prices are per person for 2 persons sharing. Add more travellers and the per-person cost decreases. GST is already included. Flights are NOT included.
Why Does the Price Drop When More People Join?
The taxi, toll taxes, driver allowances, and certain fixed costs are shared across the group. When you add a third, fourth, or fifth person, those shared costs divide further — which means each person pays less. If you’re planning a group trip, a family reunion, or a pilgrimage group from Chennai, always ask for a group quote before deciding.

If it’s open when you are there, it typically costs ₹800 for Phase 1 and ₹1,100 for Phase 2 per person We recommend going early in the morning to avoid queues.

Which Kashmir Package is Right for You?
Kashmir genuinely works for almost every type of traveller — but the right package depends on who you’re travelling with and what you want from the trip.
Families from Chennai
Go for 5N 6D or 6N 7D with 3-Star Premium or 4-Star Normal. Kids love the Shikara ride, Betaab Valley, and the snow at Gulmarg. Best months: April–June (pleasant weather, no school exams).Child policy: Up to 6 yrs — free. 7–8 yrs — CNB rate. 9 yrs and above — adult rate.Mention ages at booking.
Honeymoon Couples
4-Star Premium or 5-Star options. We include honeymoon decoration in your room at no extra charge. Pahalgam’s riverside setting and a private Shikara ride on Dal Lake at sunset are particularly romantic. Book the 6N 7D for a more relaxed experience.
Senior Citizens
The itinerary is designed with comfort in mind — no strenuous trekking required. Private non-shared taxis mean no waiting. We recommend 4-Star Normal or above for better room comfort. The 6N 7D itinerary with the relaxed houseboat day is a favourite for seniors. April–June is the best time — mild weather, no ice on roads.
Groups (Office, Friends, Relatives)
Groups of 6 or more get a noticeably lower per-person rate. We arrange multi-vehicle convoys with coordinated drivers, common itinerary, and group dinner settings. Contact us for a custom group quote.

Adventure Seekers
Add on: river rafting in Pahalgam on the Lidder River, skiing or snowboarding in Gulmarg (December–February), trekking to Tarsar-Marsar lakes, or a guided trek to Kolahoi Glacier. These are optional add-ons not in the standard package.
Offbeat Travellers
Request the 6N 7D with Doodhpathri or Yusmarg instead of a repeat Srinagar day. Both spots see far fewer tourists and offer a more authentic Kashmir experience than the well-trodden Gulmarg–Pahalgam circuit.
Best Time to Visit Kashmir from Chennai
Kashmir has four distinct seasons, and each one offers something completely different. The right time depends on what you’re hoping to experience.
Spring: March to May — Most Popular Season
Tulip season (March–April) is when Srinagar’s famous Tulip Garden — Asia’s largest — is in bloom. The weather is cool and pleasant (8°C–20°C), the meadows are turning green, and the snow is receding from the valleys. For Chennai travellers escaping the pre-summer heat, March to May is often the most comfortable and visually stunning time to visit.
Summer: June to August — Peak Tourist Season
This is when most families from South India visit. Temperatures in Srinagar stay between 15°C and 30°C — a welcome relief from Chennai’s humid heat. All roads are open, Sonmarg is accessible, and the meadows at Gulmarg and Pahalgam are fully green. Expect higher hotel prices and more crowds at popular spots during this period.
Autumn: September to November — The Hidden Gem Season
Fewer tourists, lower prices, and the Chinar trees turning golden and red. If you visit in October, the views of the Dal Lake surrounded by autumn foliage are genuinely stunning. This season is underrated and often overlooked by travellers who default to summer or winter.
Winter: December to February — Snow Season
Kashmir in winter is a different world — snow-covered houseboats, frozen Dal Lake edges, and white-draped mountains. Gulmarg becomes India’s premier ski resort. However, Sonmarg road typically closes in winter, and some hotel categories may not be available. If you want guaranteed snowfall in Srinagar city, December–January is your window — but come prepared for cold (temperatures can drop to -8°C or below).

⚠️ Honest Note on Snow & Road Conditions
We do not guarantee snowfall, Gondola availability, or Sonmarg road access for any travel date — these are weather-dependent and controlled by government authorities. We will always update you on current conditions before your travel date and adjust your itinerary if a road is closed or an attraction is inaccessible.
Kashmir Tour Package from Chennai with Flight — What You Need to Know
Our packages do not include flights — this is a deliberate choice, not an oversight. Here’s why, and how to plan your air travel.
Why Flights Are Not Included
Flight prices between Chennai and Srinagar vary significantly by season, day of the week, and how far in advance you book. If we bundled a flight into the package price, you’d often end up paying more than necessary, or be locked into timings that don’t suit you. Booking your own flight gives you full control over departure time, airline preference, and budget.
How to Book Your Chennai–Srinagar Flight
- Route: Chennai (MAA) → Srinagar (SXR)
- Airlines: IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet, Go First (check current operators)
- Typical stopover: Delhi (DEL) or Mumbai (BOM)
- Flight time: ~3.5–4 hours direct / 5–7 hours with stopover
- Book on: MakeMyTrip, Cleartrip, Ixigo, or directly on airline websites
- Budget: ₹5,000–₹12,000 per person one way depending on season
🛫 Our coordination: Once you confirm your flight, share your arrival and departure details with us. We’ll sync our airport pickup and drop accordingly. There’s no extra charge for airport transfers — they’re already in your package.
Practical Tips for Chennai Travellers Going to Kashmir
Chennai to Kashmir is not just a change in geography — it’s a major climate shift. Here’s what Chennai travellers consistently overlook:
Packing for the Temperature Difference
You’ll be leaving Chennai at 35°C+ and arriving in Srinagar at anywhere between -5°C (winter) and 25°C (summer). Pack in layers. Even in June, evenings in Srinagar and Gulmarg can feel cold compared to what you’re used to. Carry a good fleece or light jacket regardless of the season. In winter, thermal inners, heavy jackets, and gloves are non-negotiable.
Network And Connectivity
Postpaid SIM cards work in most parts of Kashmir. However, prepaid connections from Tamil Nadu may not work in the Kashmir Valley due to historical network restrictions (this has been easing, but confirm with your operator before travel). Consider activating a postpaid connection or using a data pack specifically for travel to J&K.
Money And ATMs
Carry enough cash before entering the valley. ATMs in Srinagar work fine, but connectivity can be spotty in smaller towns like Pahalgam or Sonmarg. UPI works in most shops in Srinagar but not always in remote areas. ₹5,000–₹8,000 per person as walking-around cash is a reasonable buffer for incidentals, local food, and shopping.
Health And Altitude
Srinagar itself (1,585 metres) is unlikely to cause altitude issues for most healthy travellers. However, Gulmarg (2,650 m) and Sonmarg (2,730 m) are higher, and some people — particularly those with respiratory conditions — may feel breathless. Carry any prescription medications you need, as some may not be available locally. Our 24×7 support team can assist with medical emergencies.
Cultural Etiquette
Kashmir is a Muslim-majority region with deep traditions of hospitality. Dress modestly, especially when visiting shrines like Hazratbal. Locals are generally warm and welcoming towards tourists, but be respectful of religious sites and prayer times.
